Feeling broken hearted over Roger Corman’s passing, I had to watch something.

Fall Of The House Of Usher is wonderful to look at. The rich colours, great Matt paintings and a wonderful performance from Vincent Price.

Mark Damon Has a fairly thankless role, he’s the bland hero type we follow for the duration. He does it well, but is bland nevertheless.

The story’s really engrossing, I wasn’t familiar with what actually happens, happy to see that it’s an original concept, Poe’s pretty good innee.

Probably the most “Lee Marvinest” of Lee Marvin’s films.

While the story is fairly standard (Criminal betrayed by friend, goes for revenge) its abstract nature pushes this into a thing of its own. There are moments where you can see the directors fingerprints dominating the experience, rather than the story.

But that’s a good thing, it makes the film its own unique beast.

Couple that with an iconic performance from Marvin and you’ve got a very cool film.

Some of the optical effects and an underwhelming ending stop this from being flawless masterpiece, but this will do just fine.

I put this on because I saw the Redletter Media "Best of the Worst" episode and it looked barking mad.

What's odd is that I liked it, the repetitive music, the erratic dancing, the turtle shot in black and white, wandering through a deserted Street and finally the moon, I found to be genuinely atmospheric.

Art is subjective and this is a form of art that weirdly connected with my subconscious. Who says that expression has to be what everyone…

    The Star

It annoys me when I have to stumble upon a work of real significance, while Adam Sandler films are everywhere. The Star is your basic men on a mission film. It's easy to access, but leaves you feeling haunted. Romantic music, flowers, characters that are a bit more than just soldiers, it all adds up to something a bit more than Russian 'Saving Private Ryan'. While Ryan has a premise that I never really got on board with, The Star…
