James Seems there is a strange issue that MCM *sometimes* strips EXIF metadata from uploaded images. Seems it's related to GD. And it seems GD only kicks-in on larger images - though I can't determine any definitive pattern or threshold that causes GD to trigger.
Issue became apparent because of this thread:-

But apart from knowing it *is* an MCM issue and it generally only affects *larger* images we can't really tell you any more.
While we are on the subject of GD, it would be useful please to know what the maximum uploaded size image is before GD kicks in at all?
And why can one upload an image that is say 1500px wide, and it is unaffected by GD? But once GD gets its claws into an image, the image width is reduced way below this, to just 1000px wide?
