Or : ‘Straight out of camera’, means just that ! Instead of relying on post-production to achieve the best result, how about getting it right in camera ? If there was ever a subject that is best approached this way its glamour. A studio lighting set-up (whether in a hired studio or your own space at home) is perfect for getting exposure and lighting balance dead right before you even pick up the camera. All hire studios will have flash meters, and a little instruction in their use goes a long way to produce perfect results. Then all you have to do is work on the finishing touches of model pose and expression (and these cannot be fixed in post-production !).
I’ve always known that it is better to do things right first time than to monkey around with files in post production. Yes, you can fix some mistakes in Lightroom or Photoshop, but so can your kids and the really ordinary stuff will stay looking that way and even your kids wouldn’t show that to their mates, so don’t do it.
