Just because the OP feels there is nothing more to be gained from keeping a thread open, it doesn't necessarily follow that other contributors feel the same way.
Unless there is blatant insult or rudeness going on can we not close threads simply because the OP asks?
As soon as anyone else contributes it's no longer 'their' thread - if ever it was - but belongs to the collective contributors. Conversations meander, move off topic and return to topic as the thread evolves.
A useful conversation was closed which I think covered a few good points, which would have benefitted being kept open in order to refresh it from time to time. Now that it's closed, it'll drop off the radar and we'll have to go through all that again in 6 months time when another newbie asks the same question instead of simply being able to bump the old thread.
