Back in the day when a well-dressed lady would never leave home without her girdle, those that manufactured or sold such garments would joke that, "girdles always look best on girls that don't really need them."

Well that is certainly true of these two girls, after they wriggled into these tight-fitting vintage all-in-one's. Known as corselettes, these examples date from about the mid-late 1960's (we think). They are made of a heavy nylon-lycra fabric with extra panels intended to give an extra squeeze where needed. Back in the day, often manufacturers would hire dancers or sportswomen to show how "flexible and easy to wear" their garments were. And of course their models already had fabulous figures, which made the girdles look amazing in the adversing literature. In fact I have a bit of a penchant for vintage foundationwear ads, if the truth be known. :-)

In reality of course, these foundation garments were tight, restrictive and quite a struggle to get in-and-out of. And they didn't look anywhere near as great on the general population as they did on the models! Fortunately, both my models have fabulous figures and they love vintage corsetry, despite the shortcomings in the comfort department. Which is handy because we have boxes of the stuff! And once the lasses finally wriggled into them, the effect was indeed quite dramatic.
